 Fieldfare
Photo taken in Rumia, Poland by Adam Kumiszcza

They're back, the fieldfares, and my heart gave a real leap when I saw them in the ash trees at the top of the garden this morning. They are much later than in some areas of the country, but I've found that to be the case every year. There will be no shortage of berries for them this year.

What a delightful picture. I love its determined little face. Never have I heard the word 'fieldfare' and when I looked it up, I found that though we have thrushes, we don't have this one. Lucky you!

They are very pretty birds, Nan, in a restrained kind of way. They arrive in flocks and I love to see them.

We have flocks of what I take to be Red Wings - I look out for the tell-tale reddish flash underneath. Our berries so far are abundant but these little thrush-like birds can strip them in a jiffy.

I love to feed the birds and the thrush that you call a Fieldfare looks very much like our American Robin (the coloring is different, of course). Great photograph!
