Just looking in

I wish I had been able to capture the moment of her arrival but I was quite surprised, as I sat here at the desk, when this young person arrived on my window sill. I think the windy weather may have had something to do with it - I was very glad it was a successful landing.

What a treat! I didn't know what it was till I clicked on the picture to enlarge and it said 'pheasant.' Aren't the birds pheasants in Danny The Champion of The World?? How I love that story.

What a lovely view and how lucky the pheasant didn't have a crash landing.

I have a photo somewhere of the local pheasants having a tea party on my patio furniture last winter in the snow . . . You're lucky you had the camera to hand.

Now I would never manage to catch the moment like that - batteries flat, no glasses, that kind of thing!

This reminds me of the time I was staying with a friend in the Dark Peak and looked up to see two sheep staring in at his back window. They had come down through his garden from the hillside above. There was no way we were going to try and force them back. We just had to wait until they decided to leave of their own accord.

Thanks, everyone, for your comments - it was lovely to have you all to share the surprising moment with. And it was pure fluke, really, but my phone is usually to hand when I'm working and, for once, I remembered that it has a camera.
