The most dramatic of the wildflowers are over but the burnet rose is still pretty with its dark hips, especially growing - as below - amongst the delicate eyebright, and red clover, harebells and bloody cranesbill provide colour, while lousewort makes pinky-white drifts which are much more attractive than its name suggests.
Creamy froths of meadowsweet scent the air on hot days (if only!) but I must admit I like this golden invader:
I must try it in the garden! Walking on the dunes one is less conscious of the dire state of our butterflies and moths, as the air of full of furry brown skippers, and the striking six-spot burnet. I wish I could photograph these, but they all move too fast, especially when a canine nose comes into view. Fortunately the canine nose missed this early morning walker on the narrow path:
but when I spotted a common lizard sunning itself on the stile the girls arrived as I raised the camera and it was gone in a flash! There must be snakes, too, but the closest I've seen is this wonderful viper's bugloss. The London streets will seem greyer and grimier than ever, I fear, after my brief spell of freedom!

If the London streets are anything like the Birmingham streets this morning then they are definitely going to seem grey. It's going on for 9.00am and I'm sitting here typing this with the light on! Your post made me realise that I've only been able to walk in the local country park twice this summer because the paths have been so muddy that I would have needed wellingtons. What a summer. Go well on your way back to work.
What lovely photos on your blog - I love the wild flowers and the frog. I too am back in London this week and not looking forward to it at all. My normal compensation is staying with younger daughter and having her company but she is away this week in Morocco so the wrench to pull myself away will be quite something on Wednesday!
Oh, the agony of London - slightly ameliorated by a visit to the Persephone bookshop where I bought 3 books!
A beautiful, happy walk. I'd love to have been there.
Hi - thought I would return your visit to my blog. We are definitely kindred spirits - not only do you like horses but you know about wild flowers too! AND you like cats - did I mention we have 8?!
Jennie, I meant to add that Codlins and Cream is one of my favourite flowers - I was delighted to find some growing in the garden this year, and have been carefully encouraging. Eight cats, heavens - I think the most we ever had was six.
