- What fiction book (or books) would you nominate to be the best new book published in 2007?

(Older books that you read for the first time in 2007 don’t count.) - And, do “best of” lists influence your reading?
Best non-fiction? Wildwood by Roger Deakin. Beautifully produced, a pleasure to read and just to look at. It's such a delight when a book is an object of beauty as well as an immensely satisfying read.
I rarely even look at "Best of" lists - there are very few people whose judgement I trust over that sort of thing. These days I much prefer to head for the blogs I read regularly and see what's recommended there.

Other people's "Best of" lists aren't always what I would read.
I rely on other bloggers now as well. Over a year you soon get to know whose judgement you trust and I've picked up some wonderful new authors as a result of my blogging friends.
There are a few bloggers whose best of lists I'd read, if they posted them, but really to remind myself of the reviews that had caught my eye earlier. Not only have I come across new authors as a result of reading blogs, but I've been reminded of authors I've enjoyed in the past and forgotten about.
