I'm very sorry for your loss.
Where I live is rural France and we have rescued a couple of kittens which were in our garden along with some other kittens, 6 in all I think. Anyway, I noticed that these kittens have disappeared one by one and then Sam, our kitten who was about 8 months old, but a big boy, has disappeared. I went to my neighbour across the road and asked after his cat Irvin who I had not seen for a while and he said that Irvin (who's a big cat) had disappeared some 10 days before ours. On asking around the other neighbours to look out for Sam I found out that other people had lost their cats too. It seems there's an epidemic of cat disappearances, 6 or more in the last two months. I looked up about buzzards perhaps killing cats (and small dogs it seems) and I came upon this site. We really miss Sam ever so much and I hate it we were not there to rescue him in his time of need. We have another little cat from the same litter as Sam and now there are only 2 left from that litter. It happened on 9/5/18 and we still have a little hope of finding him but hope is fading fast day by day. Thank you for your posts.world-watcherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13652211269643312728noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3721699631305175272.post-73002674817866829542015-06-04T17:18:34.745+01:002015-06-04T17:18:34.745+01:00oh poor bumble bees!

We were very careful when our kitten was small about letting her out - she's still a very small adult cat so I just have to keep my fingers crossed she will be safe. Our chickens that we have now are quite large and, I think, safer as a result, but I've heard a lot of similar stories since I wrote this. I don't think the RSPB are taking account of the increased numbers of buzzards and periods when they get very hungry.GeraniumCathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03010199887691558717noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3721699631305175272.post-54697995569636260622015-03-07T22:59:20.773+00:002015-03-07T22:59:20.773+00:00We know that one of our beloved cats was killed by...We know that one of our beloved cats was killed by a buzzard. My husband found his plucked remains in the field. The wee chap was just one year old and such a gem.RSPB deny that buzzards kill live animals we know otherwise.
We also lost a two year old cat who was such a babe-my worst case scenario is that she was also killed by a buzzard -she was small and a tabby and very adventurous-heartbreak Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3721699631305175272.post-2892505577244441242013-02-04T13:33:01.382+00:002013-02-04T13:33:01.382+00:00Julia, thank you for that correction! I have read all of Ken Allsop's books and much of his journalistic writings and also Letters to His Daughter. This last is a marvellous collection that shows the private man more so than his other works. Overall, he was a brilliant writer, and though I only vaguely remember him on 24 Hours in the early 1970s, I think his influence has lived on and become more relevant with the passing years.

I would very much like to see exerpts from his television work, but it seems hard to find. Does anyone know how this is achievable?

Incidentally, I also have the autobiography of Ken Allsop, 'Field of Vision' by Mark Andresen (2007). It is a fascinating, if flawed, book, great for creating a sense of the history of television and Ken's role in programmes like Tonight, and also for filling in his boyhood and some family life. However, it is undermined by some strange observations and a mediocre regard for grammar and syntax. The sloppy writing would have appalled Ken Allsop, who put such store in language and took such care with expressing himself. Still, the book is worth reading.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3721699631305175272.post-49294818073031728762011-08-19T18:14:53.011+01:002011-08-19T18:14:53.011+01:00Ah yes, I hold my hands up to this kind of inconsi...Ah yes, I hold my hands up to this kind of inconsistency.
